Our New 96 Well Plate Service is Launched!

Our recently acquired 3730 DNA Sequencer processes samples in 96 well PCR plates and, after we took delivery of the sequencer, we mentioned that we would soon be introducing a new service that would allow customers to send samples in 96 well plates. After obtaining the necessary hardware (another PCR machine and a plate spinning centrifuge), then performing extensive tests to ensure the robustness of the new procedures, we have migrated all our own sample processing over to the use of 96 well plates. We now perform all steps, from initial sample set-up to loading onto the sequencer, in 96 well plates. Our integration of plates into all stages of the process now means that we are in a position to offer our customers the option to send their samples to us in 96 well plates as well.

Why Would You Want to Send Samples in a 96 Well Plate?

One reason is the cost! Due to the reduced sample handling involved, we are able to offer this service at the reduced rate of 7 pounds per sample (relative to 8 pounds per sample for our standard service). If you are sending large numbers of samples, this can result in a significant cost saving (48 or 96 pounds per plate). Again because of the reduced handling, you will almost certainly get your results back quicker than you would if you sent the same number of samples in individual tubes. Finally, if you are sending bulk quantities of samples, sending them all in plates makes it easier for you, since you only have to deal with one plate rather than hundreds of small tubes!

Okay, so I Want to use the New Service, What do I Need to do?

Detailed instructions are given on the Services page, but here is a brief resume:

  • Make sure you have one of the types of plates we specify (they have to fit in our machine)
  • Choose whether you wish to send 48 or 96 samples
  • Add your template, primer and water to a final volume of 16 µl into the appropriate wells
  • Seal the plate with adhesive or heat seal film
  • Send the plate(s) to us with all the usual paperwork

If you have questions about any aspect of our service, please don't hesitate to contact us. If you have any comments you would like to make, please feel free to use our feedback form. Also, please see our Data Protection Statement.
