Don't get "Bugged" by Maxi-preps
We are delighted to announce that we are now able to
offer a bacterial DNA
maxi-prep service to our customers. We are able to grow
cultures from your starter culture or we can prep the DNA
from a culture you have already grown. The preps we perform
are Qiagen Hi-speed maxi-preps and the yield for a high copy
number plasmid can be around 1mg. After prepping, the DNA is
checked for quantity and quality on our nanodrop
spectrophotometer and the concentration will be provided
with the sample. We charge just £35 per prep and can
usually turn samples around within a day of receipt.
To make use of this service, please provide us with the
following:
- Either a fully grown culture (150ml LB for high copy
number, 250ml LB for low copy number).
- Or your starter culture (5ml) together with details
of the volume of culture (as above) and antibiotic to
use.
- As standard, we have LB medium plus ampicillin and LB
plus kanamycin. If you require a different antibiotic,
you will have to grow your own culture.
Unfortunately, at present we do not have on-line forms
for maxi-prep booking and so we recommend that customers
contact us with details of samples that they want processed.
As always, we are more than happy to discuss individual
requirements. If sending starter cultures by post, please
ensure that the cultures are in well sealed plastic tubes,
double-contained and that there is absorbant material around
the culture to absorb any spills. Starter cultures can be
sent at ambient temperature. If sending already grown
cultures, please spin down the culture and send the
bacterial pellet on dry ice via courier.
